The top-ranked South Carolina won their only game of the week. The teams that lost were Indiana, N.C. State, and Virginia Tech.
The teams in the top 10 lost 22 times this season. It was tied for the most in the past 23 years. The seven unranked teams that lost were the most ever.

The new year didn't start off well for top teams. UCLA was defeated by Oregon State.
After all the ranked-team losses last week, it was the most difficult week to put together a poll. It's difficult to look at records, injuries, NET and my experience as a basketball analyst. We were able to get parity. It's a good way to measure growth in a game.
The top five teams in the poll are: The top-ranked South Carolina were once again a unanimous choice at the top after the Hoosiers' loss.
Ohio State, LSU, Utah, and St. John's are all ranked in the top 10. Utah is in the top ten.
Virginia Tech and North Carolina State finished in the top ten.
One of the teams that knocked off a top 10 team was Duke. The Blue Dukes are in the top 20. They're off to a 13-1 start and have one loss. The team is off to its best start in six years, having won all three of its conference games.
Arkansas was out of the polls.
It's rising up.
The Utah team that went 16-0 to start the 1997-98 season is only two victories away from being the second longest team in school history.
It was the fall of the TAR HeELS.
After losing to Florida State and Virginia Tech, the Heels fell out of the top 25. Two weeks ago the Tar Heels were sixth in the Top 25.
