Harry was asked by Cooper why the couple chose to be so public about their issues with the royal family after stepping back from their royal duties.

There have been leaks and planting of stories against Harry and his wife, according to Harry.

Harry criticized the royal family's practice of "feeding" stories to royal correspondents and said that he andMeghan were told the palace "can't put a statement out to protect you."

The couple's press secretary previously commented on the criticism against them, accusing critics of creating a "distorted narrative" and that it was "entirely untrue" that they wanted privacy from the press.

The family motto is never complain, never explain, but it is just a motto, according to Harry.

What To Watch For

The 60 Minutes interview with Harry will air in full on January 8. Harry will release his memoir on January 10.

Key Background

There is a lot of footage from the couple's private life and details a wide range of grievances the couple had during their time as working royals. It came after the couple first detailed their concerns to Oprah Winfrey in a March 2021. Due to the unwanted press attention they received, the Sussexes retreated from royal life in order to speak out against the royals and draw attention to themselves. While they still retain their royal titles, Buckingham Palace announced in 2021, that they will not return as working royals.

The documentary has received high ratings but negative reviews in the U.K. and has led to calls for the removal of the royal titles of Harry andMeghan.
