I used to escape the cold winters in Washington, D.C. by flying down to Naples, Florida, to visit my aunt and uncle. I had to drag my coat with me for the start and end of the trip because it was so cold. The overhead bins on my Florida flights were always full because I didn't want to leave the cold and snow in Florida for a long time. Sometimes I wore or sat on my coat because of the lack of space. I wondered why coat checks weren't offered for snowbirds like me.

Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport has heard my cries. The coat check service has been popular for the last four years. Locals flying to warmer weather can check their coats for only $2 a day, or $10 per trip, at the pre-security location at the Summer festival.

You don't have to wear your bulky coat, gloves, and other unneeded items on the plane when you go to warm weather locations. The problem of trying to put your coat in your luggage is solved. There is space in the overhead bins. You don't have to look silly when you get off the plane in Mexico in a big coat, shorts, and flip-flops.

All airports should offer 8underappreciated amenities.

This coat check service is convenient for travelers because Milwaukee will offer nonstop flights to many cities in Florida, Arizona, California, Mexico and the Caribbean. Milwaukee's airport was recognized for this unique service in 2020.

The service is offered at other airports as well. Travelers can leave their coats at the airport during warm weather getaways. The airport charges 50 cents per day for jackets and coats to be stored next to the luggage storage service. There was a coat check at the John F. Kennedy International Airport.
