I remember the Odyssey Ark. It was released last year and had a humongous 55 inch display that towered over you in portrait mode. According to my colleague, it feels like being in virtual reality. The Multi View mode was barely able to keep up with the monitor that had been set to 11.

At the Consumer Electronics Show, they are announcing something even bigger, with even higher-end specifications. The Odyssey Neo G9 is a follow-up to the MiniLED display that was released in 2021. It has a curved display of 57 inches.

Design-wise, the G95NC looks very similar to its predecessor.

The company said it was the first 8K ultra wide monitor. Sean Hollister pointed out that the 8K label is not true. It makes you think of 8K TVs, with a resolution of 7680 by 4320, which have four times the resolution of 4k. The new Odyssey Neo G9 has a 32:9 aspect ratio. The horizontal resolution of a 4K display is the same as the horizontal resolution of an 8K TV.

That is double the number of a traditional 4K display, like the one on the Ark. This is the first gaming monitor with DisplayPort 2.1, though the company hasn't revealed what other inputs it will have, or if it will use a One Connect Box.

We don't know a lot of details about the neo G9. It will launch later this year but there is no word on price or further details. The company isn't saying if the monitor will have Multi View mode to accept multiple inputs or what ports it will have. The Neo G9 has a higher refresh rate than the Ark, but the G9 before it had some strange behavior.
