Prague-based 3D illustrator Filip Hodas has created a new series of skulls inspired by some of his favorite childhood cartoon characters. Combining his interest in skulls with his work in CG, Hodas crafts each skull using 3D programming and contrasts the realistic rendering with a colorful, cartoonish background.

Hodas includes items that are characteristic of each cartoon character to make them instantly recognizable to the viewer. The series features a fossilized Goofy, called Canis Goofus, wearing a shabby version of his rumpled green hat, Minnie Mouse, or Mus Minnius, sporting her iconic red polka-dot bow, and Tweety Bird, called Canaria Tweetea, surrounded by yellow feathers. Other characters included in the series are SpongeBob, Popeye, and Scrooge.

"The main goal of this series was to get better at sculpting and to experiment with Zbrush to Substance Painter workflow," Hodas explained in a statement. "For each skull, I tried to adjust and improve the workflow which resulted in quite visible differences between the first ( Canis Goofus) and last in the series ( Anas Scroogius)." All of the textures were procedurally made in 3D programming.

In other news, Victor Solomon crafted a solid crystal ball, dubbed MoonShotVS.007, featuring seam lines etched and filled with gold enamel.
