Thousands of mourners are at the ground of his former club to pay their respects to the legend.

Fans lined the streets to get into the stadium where the coffin was placed in the center of the pitch.

The three-time World Cup winner passed away on December 29th.

There will be a funeral procession through the streets ofSantos.

Three days of national mourning were declared by the Brazilian government.

The greatest player of all time had been undergoing treatment for colon cancer.

"We're going to ask all the countries in the world to name their stadiums after him," said Infantino, who was at the memorial.

Some fans waited overnight to see the coffin after the hearse arrived at the stadium.

"We are talking about a global icon, so this is going to be a huge global event," Tim said.

Pel is a source of pride for Brazil. He is from a city that he made his home in, but he is also a part of the world.

It was going to be an intense day, according to a Brazilian journalist who worked with the legend.

He said that it was the people of the streets who made the day so beautiful.
