The social-media company is being sued by a landlord who says it owes $136,260 in rent.
The lawsuit focuses on the office at the Hartford Building rather than the headquarters in San Francisco. The company has failed to pay rent on the 30th floor of the building.
According to a copy of the notice attached to the lawsuit, the landlord gave the company five days to pay the rent or it would break its lease.
The landlord, Columbia Reit - 650 California, could take legal action, such as starting eviction proceedings, if it wasn't paid.
According to court documents, the entire 30th floor of the tower houses the office of the social media company. According to the lawsuit, the office was sublet to Dentsu International Americas.
Dentsu and Columbia Reit didn't respond to Insider's requests for comment.
More than half of the company's staff have been laid off since Musk took ownership of the company. Free food and work trips have been cut down on by him.
The New York Times reported in December that the company was weeks behind on rent for its headquarters in San Francisco.
Credit Suisse, Affirm, and WeWork all have offices at the Hartford Building.
The second-richest person in the world is Musk.
