It was a year ago that WIRED said that it would be a crucial year for electric cars. We told you to watch out for 18 models and the long wait lists for new electric vehicles.

The US saw a 49 percent increase in electric car sales in the first half of the year. China experienced a huge increase. Full EV accounted for 13 percent of all new car sales. Electric cars will make up more than half of all vehicles sold by the end of the decade, according to the International Energy Agency.

Combine this surge in consumer interest with new battery technologies that have helped the number of EV boasting 300-plus miles of range to triple in the US in 2022, and one can only see the electric car popularity chart pointing in one direction.

We'll keep testing out the best new rides coming to market, from the $5K China minis to the German super saloons, and maybe we'll even get our editor in chief to review some more electric motorbikes. WIRED has an exclusive selection of what they think are the best electric cars of the future.

The Alpha5 is from the movie, "Deconstructing Alpha5."

There is a photograph of the author.

Fans of Back to the Future should be aware that this is the first car in more than four decades. It will go from zero to 60 mph in just under three seconds and then on to a projected top speed of 155 mph. The Alpha5 has the same design as its film-star predecessor, with gull-wing doors. The DMC-12 has a wedge shape, but it has been changed to a smooth styling that will help it reach the 300-mile range. Cambridge Audio brought in high end stereo nerds to make sure Power of Love sounds great. Customer deliveries are going to be good in the years to come. Is that what? Is that really true? Zero to 88 mph will take 4.35 seconds. Scott, great!

There is a car called the EV9.

There is a photograph of the KIA.

The EV9 SUV was revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show and is expected to hit the UK showrooms in the fall of 2023. There is a solar panel built into the bonnet of the car. There are three rows of seats and a pop-up steering wheel. The rugged design of the EV9 will allow it to take on Range Rover. The Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the same used in the EV6, means 800-volt electrical architecture and lightning-fast charging at rates of up to 350 kilowatts. The EV9 will be the first car in the world to offer Automode.

IX1 is a car.

There is a photograph of BMW.

The iX1 will be more important for BMW in the coming year than the luxurious i7 will be. What's the reason? The i3 was BMW's entry level EV. The xDrive30 dual-motor version is expected to have an output of 313hp and a WLTP driving range of up to 272 miles from the 64.7%-kWh battery. It is possible to increase the battery level from 10 to 80 percent in 29 minutes or to increase the range from 75 miles to 100 miles in 10 minutes. The person who made the final decision? The new X1 is turning into a rugged runabout thanks to a clever design.

The audi a6 e-tron is a car.

The photograph is of AUDI.

We've been waiting a long time for the fully electric A6 models to arrive, and we were first shown the idea back in 2021. The next iteration of the A6 E-Tron will be based on the group's latest PPE architecture, which will be used on the next Macan EV. The platform will allow for quick 800-volt charging and longer range thanks to its 100kWh battery capacity. The ranges could be approaching 400 miles. If you want to spec a door camera option, the projection headlights are a better option. It will be coming later.

There is a cybertruck.

There is a picture ofTesla.

If you're an avid fan, you'll be happy to know that the Cybertruck will be coming to customers in late 2023. OtherTesla models have been beset by delays Even if the Cybertruck's production is years later than initially planned, it will arrive. The plan is to gradually ramp up output to full capacity by the end of the year. The hundreds of thousands of buyers who reserved the pickup for $100 will be crossing their fingers that Musk can deliver the stated performance: a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds, a sub three-seconds zero-to-60 time, and a range of 500 miles. They will be watching the price. The prices of the pickup have been removed from the website.

The air is called the Lucid Air.

There is a photograph of a motor.

I've seen it up close, and I'm happy to tell you that it's got more character than the design suggests. The four-door EV is all about performance. The standard Air's two motor will not be enough for this version, as three of Lucid's impressive, comparatively slender motor will make it more powerful. Quite a bit more is possible. The EV will travel from standstill to 60 mph in less than two seconds, then on to 100 mph in less than four. It will hit the quarter mile in less than nine. This is close to Rimac Nevera, and the hypercar costs more than $2 million. The Sapphire will cost $249,000 and have carbon-ceramic brakes. There are also seats in the back.

The Ford is a medium-size vehicle.

The Medium-Size Crossover is a Ford vehicle.

Photograph: Ford

There is no public information on this new EV from Ford at the moment. Why are we including it here? We think it will be very popular in Europe, where it is being made. It's safe to say that it will be a Mini-Me version of the popular Ford Explorer. The kind of car that those waiting for Range Rover to pull its finger out and just get the hell on with making a full EV Evoque may well jump ship for is one of the vehicles Ford announced back in March. The EV Evoque and Discovery Sport won't arrive until at least 2024. The Ford EV will come out of the brand's assembly plant in Cologne, Germany, which will switch from making the Ford Fiesta to just making fully electric vehicles.

The Ioniq 6 is a car from theHyundai group.

The photograph is ofHyundai.

WIRED is a big fan of what the two brands have been up to recently. This is the sleek and sporty Ioniq 6 and it will be available in early 2023. EV's like being aerodynamic because it gives them more range The Ioniq 6 has a low drag coefficients of 0.21, making it one of the most aerodynamic cars. The single motor, rear-wheel drive variant has been able to squeeze up to 338 miles out of the long-range batterypack. The all-wheel drive version has an estimated zero to 62 time of 5.1 seconds and up to 239 kilowatts of power. If you're buying, we suggest skipping the optional digital side mirrors.

The ocean is named Fisker.

Fisker Inc. is pictured

The Fisker Ocean is going to be one of the best looking electric SUVs in the foreseeable future. The Ocean made our selection last year, but it seemschurlish not to include the car again as our affection for this EV hasn't waned in the waiting. The cabin's 17.1-inch screen has a Hollywood Mode that rotates it from portrait to landscape to make sure people are entertained while the battery is being filled. It takes zero to 60 seconds. The full-length SolarSky roof is said to give drivers up to 1,500 emissions-free miles per year. The battery can run your entire home for up to seven days with the bidirectional charge. California Mode can see at the push of a button all eight glass panels open at the same time to transform the SUV into a converted vehicle.

The Toyota Prius will be on the market in the years to come.

The car is courtesy of Toyota.

A sleek and shiny car. Is that one cool? At the news, the auto world nearly blew a gasket. The previous iteration of the Prius has been seen as dowdy, and rightfully so, with their nondescript shape and normcore vibe. We won't make a final judgement until we see it. The design of this car was not very good. It isn't a full EV but a hybrid. Adding solar panels to the car's battery adds to Toyota's claim that it's the most fuel efficient of the bunch. There is a hands-free driving mode.

The mini aceman is small.

There is a photograph of a mini.

The final design of the mini aceman concept will be revealed in 2023. We won't be able to try the car out for a while. The reason the Aceman makes this list for a design reveal is due to the fact that this rugged, urban SUV look is quite the departure for Mini, and we hope the brand sticks with as much as possible. Mini says the concept is true to the final design. Everything that will follow this concept is being previewed. Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group's design director, told us at the launch that whatever model followed would take a few leaves out of the new book of design. The current Countryman is almost the same size as the Aceman, which is 13 feet long and just under 6 feet wide. It will run on the same platform as the Mini with a complete design refresh. The Aceman will probably have a sub 300 mile range, but we hope for more.

The jeep Avenger.

There is a photograph of a Jeep.

If you can make a fully electric small SUV, the money is there. The new Avenger will come to the roads at the start of 2023, just like with Ford. A four-wheel-drive version is coming, though, despite the fact that this is not a very Jeep Jeep. The Avenger is a sister car to the 2008 and Mokka and will be manufactured in Poland along with other Stellantis stablemates. The single- motor version of the CMP platform can produce up to 154 bhp and 260Newton-meters of Torque, while the 54kWh battery with rapid charging can take the pack from 20 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes. What's the range? In stop-start urban traffic, it's around 343 miles.

VW ID.7 is also known as Aero B.

VW's driver's license. A concept car.

Photograph: INGO BARENSCHEE/Volkswagen

The VW ID.7 four-door will be the production version. The ID's near-production concept is Aero. The car is called the izzion. Are we still with them? I think it's good. The VW ID.7 will sit on the MEB+ platform, which Volkswagen says will allow big improvements in automated driving features, increase the charging rate to 200 kilowatts, and improve WLTP range by about 100 miles. There will be a single motor RWD and dual motor AWD version. A zero-to-62 time is achieved by the single- motor. There is talk of the ID.7 having a 10-minute charge.

The G9 is called Xpeng.

There is a photograph of Xpeng motors.

The fourth car in the emerging brand's lineup was revealed a few months ago. The P5 and P7 saloons are followed by the G3i SUV. The flagship of the brand will be the G9 and it will sport all the tech the company can throw at it. The RWD Standard Range models have a power to weight ratio of 3:1 and a Torque to weight ratio of 4:1. There is a range of 354 miles. The range of the G9 is increased by the RWD Long Range model. There are also all-wheel-drive versions of the 650E Performance, 650X Performance, and 650X Launch Edition. There is a claimed time of 3.8 seconds and a range of over 400 miles. The cars come with a lidar. As much as 125 miles can be added in just five minutes, with a 10 to 80 percent charge possible in fifteen minutes. This would make the G9 the world's fastest charging SUV. The Xopera system has 28 speakers and an output of 2, 250 watt.

Polestar 2.

Isaksson is pictured with Polestar.

The production of the Polestar 3 won't begin until summer of 2023. The Scando design helps belie the car's large size, yet it still looks sporty. There is a low drag factor of 0.29. The kind of driver assistance safety features and monitoring you would expect from Volvo's sister brand, Polestar, are delivered in the form of five radar modules, five external cameras, and 12 Ultrasonic Sensors. You can get a 25-speaker surround-sound audio system that will be useful if you want to spend a lot of time in the car. It will take about 30 minutes to top-up if the DC charging speeds are up to 250 kilowatts. Do you want to go faster? The Performance Pack has a top speed of 130 mph and a power output of 510hp. If you want the seven-seat Volvo version built on the same platform, you have to ask. You won't be able to do anything until 2024.

The Lotus Eletre is a car.

The photograph is of Lotus.

The grill at the front of Lotus's all-electric SUV is connected to triangular panels at the back that open when the Eletre stops. As the illuminated flush-fitting door handles open and close, the active grill "breathes" as it moves. It's fancy. The first production car with retractable lidar for self-driving is also included. The Lotus can be charged up to 350 kilowatts in 20 minutes. If you have spare ears, you can upgrade to the 2, 160-Watt, 23 speaker "Reference" version of the KEF sound system. When we say 2023 for this SUV, we're crossing our fingers that Lotus won't push it back again.

The Rolls-Royce is named after a person.

The picture is of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

Since 2003 Rolls-Royce has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the BMW Group. It wasn't a surprise when Rolls' first electric vehicle was announced. The Spectre has been designed from the ground up as an electric vehicle. The brand's cars are used to being quiet and powerful, and a new aluminum Chassis is in place to make sure that doesn't change. An expected 300-plus miles of range and a zero-to-60 time of 4.4 seconds seem impressive for a car that weighs almost 3 tons. The Spectre is the most aerodynamic Rolls-Royce ever produced, which is why it's important to cut through air in an electric vehicle.

Page 2

Despite a global chip shortage and months of stop-start Covid restrictions, the interest in electric cars is still growing. In the first half of 2021, global sales of EV increased by 168 percent compared to the first half of 2020, with 2.65 million cars sold. The worldwide automobile market dropped in 2020.

There were so many reservations for the F-150 that within 48 hours they had reached 44,000. Ford decided to double the initial production capacity for the all-electric truck after it was surprised by the number of pre-orders.

According to the International Energy Agency, the number of electric cars, buses, vans, and heavy trucks on the road is expected to rise from 10 million today to over 100 million by the end of the decade. According to the IEA, if governments increase efforts to meet international energy and climate goals, the global EV fleet could potentially reach 230 million.

The time has come for the electric vehicle. We thought it was appropriate to give you a rundown of our favorite models that will be hitting the roads in the coming year.

The audi a6 e-tron is a car.

The photograph is of AUDI.

In order to establish its e-tron range as quality alternatives to traditional internal-combustion engine autos, AUDI labored to establish its e-tron range as quality alternatives to traditional internal-combustion engine autos. The e-tron GT will be followed by the A6 e-tron. The car is based on the same Premium Platform Electric platform shared with other cars. Expect 800-volt charging capability, a range of more than 400 miles, and a 0-62 mph speed of less than four seconds from the two electric motor.

The iX M60 is a car.

There is a photograph of BMW.

We liked the EV iX from BMW. It went 0-62 in 4.6 seconds with a limited top speed of 124 mph. The company has seen fit to develop a version of the M that is called the M60. Better brakes, re-tuned suspension, and reduced weight are some of the things that will be improved over the iXs. The all-wheel drive EV is rumored to produce around 600hp. It should be able to hit 62 mph in less than four seconds. The focus on performance will rob the iX M60 of its range.

The Ford F-150 has a lightning bolt on top.

The photograph is of Ford.

The electric pickup truck is a big deal for Ford. The regular internal-combustion F-150 has been the best-selling vehicle in the US for over four decades. The look has mostly been left untouched. The other things have changed. There are two electric motors that provide 563hp and 800 pound-feet of Torque. There are two battery options, the standard pack and the extended range model. Thanks to the lack of an engine, the ability to tow up to 10,000 lbs, and the Pro Power Onboard system, you get a huge "frunk" (front trunk). During a power outage, the F-150 can be used to run an average-sized home. You will need luck to get one in 2022.

The Citroen Ami is a car.

There is a photograph of Citron.

The Citroen Ami is actually a quad bike. It can be legally driven by 14-year-olds if this is true. Parents, good luck with that one. A top speed of 28 mph and 42 miles between charges makes this runabout perfect for two people. The Ami Cargo is a delivery focused version. The doors open in opposite directions because the same component is used on both sides of the vehicle. The bumpers are the same except for the paint.

The Hummer is a car.

The photograph was taken by the GMC.

You can launch the Hummer EV Edition 1 from standstill to 60 mph in three seconds, thanks to three electric motor capacities of 1,000hp and 11,500lb-ft of Torque. The function called Crab Mode seems to be getting a lot of attention. The rear wheels of the truck can turn 10 degrees and allow the car to drive in a diagonal manner. You can gain 100 miles in 10 minutes with the 350 kilowatt fast charging capability. Is it the last touch? The roof panels are no longer in place.

There is a plane called the "Lucid Air."

There is a photograph of a motor.

The luxury electric sedan has been in the works for a long time. The Air Dream Edition has already reached a lucky few, with shipments beginning back in October, and Lucid is only building 520 of them. The car's ultra-low drag coefficients help it reach a frightening 168 mph. The DreamDrive uses 32 sensors and lidar to monitor road conditions, traffic, and the driver, while a 34 inch curved 5k screen offers up all the relevant information in the cabin. More realistic options of the Air are coming in the future.

The car is called the MC20.

There is a picture of a car

The gasoline-powered version of the car is 175 to 220 pounds heavier than the EV version. There are three electric motors that will deliver this performance. Are you talking about acceleration? It was 0-62 mph in 2 seconds. The electric version of the design doesn't need air intakes. The fully-electric model of the V6 MC20 will cost north of the £187,000 starting price.

Polestar 2.

The photograph is of Polestar.

The Polestar 2 was the best EV when it arrived. We were overjoyed when Polestar released a glimpse of its electric SUV, the Polestar 3. The Polestar 3 will share a platform and battery with the Volvo XC90, which is also powered by an electric motor. Expect a flat floor cabin and a higher seating position thanks to a rethink on interior design now that we don't need transmission tunnels. What's the range? Fast charging can reach 80 percent full in as little as 20 minutes. The driving characteristics are expected to be similar to the Volvo.

The ocean is named Fisker.

There is a photograph of Fisker.

Even the fastest and most powerful electric car charging systems can only measure battery top-up times in a matter of minutes. Thankfully, the Fisker Ocean has a way to get rid of car-charge boredom. It has a Hollywood Mode that rotates the screen from portrait to landscape to keep people entertained while the battery is empty. Add in a 300-mile range, solar roof, and a performance version, and you have the Ocean. The person who made the final decision? The interior and carpets are all vegan.

The car is called the EV6.

There is a photograph of a person named Kia.

We drove the new flagship EV from KIA, and we think you will like it when it comes to the US. Is the build quality good? Check to see if it's true. On a single charge, the range is north of 300 miles. Check to see if it's true. The usual price for a car? Check to see if it's true. It has the same electric architecture as its stablemate, the Ioniq 5, with patented tech that increases 400V to 800V for stable charging. What did the result look like? In just 18 minutes, you can top-up with a 350-kW charging station. Should the need arise, you can use the car's battery to run standard household tools and appliances.

There is a car named Lotus, and it is called Lotus evija.

The photograph is of Lotus.

The long-awaited EV car from Lotus is expected to arrive in 2022. It will be worth the wait. The first British all-electric hypercar can go from standstill to 186 mph in under nine seconds, thanks to a ludicrous quad- motor system that can produce 2,000hp. That's five seconds faster than the car. The Lotus is able to top out at more than 200 mph. What's the downside? On a single charge, you only get 215 miles. Only 130 cars will be built because of the cost of such performance. The battery pack is tucked behind the seats rather than in the floor. The ride height can be lowered to 105mm by Lotus.

Rivian R 1S.

Rivian is pictured.

According to the company, the R1S is ready to explore "all terrain, in all weather." The R1T has a starting price of $70,000. A combined 750hp from the electric drivetrain is provided by four motor on each wheel, and drivers can enjoy speeds of up to 60 mph in three seconds. You can tow up to 7,700 lbs with eight drive modes and a wading depth of 3 feet. There is more tech than you can shake a stick at, including a plush interior with more tech than you can shake a stick at, as well as four overhead aluminum dome speakers.

The bZ4X is a car.

The photograph is of Toyota.

The bZ4X will have a range of over 300 miles on the front-wheel-drive version. The 0-62 mph times are different for each build, and the range on the all-wheel version is less than the other two. The owner of the car can use the app to give others access to the vehicle. An 80 percent charge can be achieved in 30 minutes with a maximum rapid charge rate of 150 kilowatts. According to Toyota, the battery will hold 90 percent of its range for the first 10 years of its life, which is a first for the company. A digital connection where the driver's steering inputs are relayed electronically to the front tires is what the company has come up with. The result is more space in the front and lock.

The Volvo XC-90 is a car.

The photograph is of Volvo.

The new XC90 will be Volvo's first model to use an advanced "eyes off" driving function, not as fully autonomously but as "very advanced cruise control." Lidar tech from Luminar and an autonomously driving computer with the Nvidia Drive Orin chip will marry with backup systems for steering and braking for something supposedly approaching Level 4 self driving. It means that you don't need to hold the wheel. Volvo says that the Highway Pilot function will be built-in but not initially turned on.

Genesis is named after the biblical figure.

There is a photograph of Genesis.

The Korean manufacturer wants to be an alternative to the likes of the BMW iX3 and Volkswagen ID.5. The rear-facing cameras on the GV60 are similar to the rear-facing cameras on the AUDI. The rear-wheel-drive version of the 77.4-kWh battery has the longest range at 281 miles. The all-wheel-drive model has a lower range than the other two models. The Performance model can only go 229 miles, but it has twin motors that can power up to 435hp and a boost mode that can speed up. A drift mode is also present. The battery can be brought from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes with the help of a 350-kW charging station.

The bollinger B1 is a good one.

The picture was captioned "Bollinger."

This fully electric SUV can be switched from a half- to full-cab, thanks to the all-aluminum structure and the fact that it's not a half- to full-cab vehicle. The 142kWh battery can only provide 200 miles of range, but the dual motors can deliver 614hp and a time of 4.5 seconds. The top speed is not very fast. The B1 seems to have a secret, that almost everything can be easily removed.

Canoo is a lifestyle vehicle.

There is a photograph of Canoo.

Canoo's lifestyle vehicle can be pre-ordered now. The 350hp runabout can cover 250 miles on a single charge, and you can choose between four versions: a two-seater Delivery model, a five-seater Base edition, and seven-seater Premium and Adventure. In 28 minutes, the base edition can hit 80 percent charge. A 17-speaker audio system is included in the Premium edition. The tow hitch can pull up to 2,000 lbs., and the roof rack can hold more than one person. The pickup is going to have a bigger motor.

There is a cybertruck.

There is a picture ofTesla.

The latest date for the arrival of the cheese-wedge-cum-Delorean is 2022. The electric pickup with sports car performance and armor glass could be on the market within a year. Don't give up. The truck will initially come with four engines, 500 miles of range and a time under three seconds. It's too much to hope that the Cyberquad will be ready at the same time. It's probably a possibility.
