If the US beats China in the race to the moon, China will be able to claim its own territory, according to the head of NASA.

The Chinese military expansion in the South China Sea is an indicator of what might happen on the moon, according to the NASA administrator.

Nelson said, "We're in a space race." They don't get to a place on the moon under the guise of scientific research, so we have to be careful. It is possible that they will say, "We're here, this is our territory"

Nelson said that China has enjoyed success in its space program over the last decade.
