The FCC Commissioner said that India set an "incredibly important precedent" by banning TikTok two and a half years ago.
The Indian daily Economic Times quoted Brendan Carr, Commissioner of the FCC, as saying that banning the social app is a natural next step in securing the communication network.
The senior Republican on the Federal Communications Commission said he is worried that China could use sensitive and non-public data gleaned from TikTok to spy on Americans.
He said that we need to weed out other bad apps as well.
The push among U.S. states and lawmakers to be cautious of TikTok is growing.
There have been skirmishes at the border of India and China in the past two years and India has banned hundreds of apps with Chinese links.
The apps were banned because they posed threats to the national security and defence of India.
Prior to the ban, TikTok had over 200 million monthly active users in India, making it the largest international market by users.
Carr told the Indian paper that India's strong leadership has been helpful in the debate over banning TikTok. India is an example of a country that has succeeded in banning an app.
The US House banned TikTok because of a number of security issues. Nearly two dozen states partially blocked the app from state-managed devices due to concerns that China could use it to track Americans.
He told the newspaper that a blanket ban on TikTok was the only way to go.
