The inauguration of Brazil's new president was held on Sunday.

The far-right president was defeated in the October election by the left-wing incumbent. The New York Times reported that Bolsonaro abandoned the inauguration for a trip to Florida after refusing to concede the election.

Bolsonaro flew there on Friday and will stay for at least a month while he faces investigations from his term as president. The Times reported that he was staying in a home owned by a professional mixed- martial- arts fighter.

Bolsonaro was supposed to pass the presidency to da Silva during the ceremony on Sunday. According to The Times, a voice announced that the president of Brazil would accept the sash from the people of Brazil, and a garbage collector put it over his shoulder.

An investigation into his misinformation-laden attacks on Brazil's voting machines, as well as his possible links to "digital militias" that spread misinformation, are two of the five inquiries Bolsonaro is facing. The office of Brazil's President gives him immunity from prosecution.

An anonymous source told The Times that the former president is waiting in Florida to see if the da Silva administration will push any of the investigations.
