It will be another busy year for Apple's software. Apple has previously announced several features that will be available this year as part of upcoming updates.
We have recapped seven features that are expected to launch or expand to additional countries, such as an Apple Pay Later financing option and an Apple Card savings account that will allow for interest to be earned on daily cash.
There will be opt-in support for web-based push notifications in the future. The feature will allow users to receive notifications from websites through the browser.
Apple Pay Later is a financing feature that will allow customers in the US to split a purchase into four equal payments over six weeks with no interest or fees to pay. The feature will be built into the wallet app and can be used for purchases online and in the app on the iPad.
The feature may not be available in all states, according to Apple. Apple Pay Later is not available in the first version of the OS X operating system. According to Mark Gurman, the feature may launch with the new version of the software this year.
The new Security Keys for Apple ID feature will be available in early 2023, according to Apple. Hardware security keys can be used to further protect their account. Security Keys strengthens Apple's two-factorAuthentication by requiring a hardware security key as one of the two factors instead of a verification code from another Apple device.
Apple won't be releasing its own hardware security keys. Third-party security keys will be used for the feature.
In October, Apple announced that Apple Card users would soon be able to open a new high yield savings account from Goldman Sachs and have their Daily Cash rewards automatically deposited into it, with no fees, no minimum deposits, and no minimum balance requirements. The account would be managed on the phone.
If a user chooses to continue having Daily Cash added to their Apple Cash balance, all Daily Cash received from that point on will be deposited into the account and begin earning interest. 3% Daily Cash is provided by the Apple Card on purchases made with Apple Pay.
The savings account was listed in the release notes for the mobile operating system, but it hasn't launched yet. It's not clear when the savings account will be available in the first version of the mobile operating system.
The next generation of Apple's software platform, called CarPlay, will include support for multiple displays, as well as integration with vehicle functions like the instrument cluster and climate controls.
The first vehicles with support for the next-generation CarPlay experience will be announced in late 2023, with committed automakers including Acura, audi, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan,Porsche, Volvo, and others. There will be more information about the next generation of CarPlay later this year.
When enabled, the Advanced Data Protection feature expands end-to-end encryption to many additional areas of iCloud, including backups, photos, notes, Reminders, Voice Memos, and more. The feature is only available in the US and will be available to the rest of the world in early 2023.
It's not clear when Advanced Data Protection will be available in additional countries, but it's possible that the feature will be added to more iPhone users with the latest version of the software.
The Emergency SOS via Satellite feature will be supported in additional countries next year, according to Apple. Apple didn't give a list of countries where the feature will be expanded.
Last month, the service became available in France, Germany, Ireland, and the UK, with some local emergency service numbers required for Apple's mobile operating system.
It's possible to send text messages to emergency services via satellite when you're outside of cellular and wi-fi coverage. The service is free for the first two years after the phone is activated.
