International travel is expected to increase this summer with travel restrictions easing in many countries.

Don't expect to fly to Rome or Paris anytime soon if you don't have a passport.

The State Department says that a passport can take up to 11 weeks to process. Travelers will need to wait five to seven weeks for the process to be processed if they pay $60.

Some destinations don't require US tourists to carry a passport. You can go to some popular destinations without a document.

If you're planning to travel internationally, turn in your passport application as soon as possible.

If you haven't booked airline tickets yet, don't worry. Prices are going up because of crazy bookings.

Puerto Rico passport requirements

It is easy to fly to Puerto Rico if you have a state-issued ID.

Domestic travelers don't need to show proof of vaccine or a negative coronaviruses test to enter the island.

The island of Puerto Rico will no longer require entry for US travelers.

US Virgin Islands passport requirements

Domestic travelers can go to the U.S. Virgin Islands without a passport.

The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism says that a passport is not required if you are a US citizen. If you want to leave the islands, you need to show proof of citizenship, such as a raised-seal birth certificate and government-issued photo ID.

To enter the USVI Travel Screening portal, domestic travelers must submit a negative coronaviruses test or proof of full vaccine status.

In the U.S. Virgin Islands, Buck Island in St Croix is a popular spot for tourists.

Northern Mariana Islands passport requirements

The Northern Mariana Islands do not require a passport to visit.

Travelers need to fill out a health declaration form and submit their vaccinations before entering.

Travelers who are unvaccinated need to be tested five days after arriving at a community-based testing site. If the test is positive, they must stay away from each other.

Guam passport requirements

Proof of citizenship and photo ID can be accepted on a case-by-case basis, according to the Guam Visitors Bureau.

Travelers who can show proof of a negative coronaviruses test before leaving are exempt from a 10-day quark.

The Guam Electronic Declaration Form needs to be filled out by visitors before they arrive.

Canada passport requirements

According to the Canadian government's website, citizens who are members of the NEXUS program can show proof of identification when travelling.

If you don't have a passport, you can apply for a NEXUS card, but it won't be accepted at airports.

Children under the age of 18 can apply for NEXUS without paying a fee. The average time taken for an application to be processed is six months.

Travelers under the age of 16 are not required to have a passport to enter Canada, according to the State Department.

Travelers from the U.S. can enter Canada for tourism only if they are fully vaccine free.

Closed-loop cruise passport requirements

Customs and Border Protection does not require a passport for travelers on closed-loop cruises.

A passport, Enhanced Driver's License or government-issued birth certificate can be used to prove citizenship.

Some destinations may require a passport for U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises, according to Customs and Border Protection.

In those instances, the cruise lines would require passengers to have a valid passport even if it is not a U.S. requirement, according to the agency's website. Check with your cruise ship, travel agent, and destination country to confirm the requirements to enter the foreign countries you will visit.
