I don't want to have 5G on my phone. What's the reason? It is a complete waste of space, nobody uses it, and to the average person on the street, it doesn't mean anything. It has been on new phones for a long time.
I am not talking about 5G, I am talking about the practice of adding 5G to the end of phone calls. It has 5G and we understand. It's time to differentiate those that don't from those that do, rather than those that do.
There were only a few phones that could connect to a 5G network. A few of them include the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, the S10 5G, and the V50 Thin Q 5G. You would have to make an effort to buy them because they were distinct and notable for being 5G capable. Adding 5G to their name made sense. It was correct.
4G phones were still popular. Making it clear to potential buyers that they were looking at a 5G-Ready phone was responsible, as they were more expensive than their 4G counterparts, and a 5G signal wasn't common. The primary reason for the higher price at every opportunity was pointed out, so it was the right thing to do.
5G was a new technology that was being promoted as the future. It was important to get it out quickly and into the mainstream consciousness because of the huge amount of investment companies putting into it. It made sense to call everything 5G. It is pointless and messy now that the days are over.
This is what I mean. We could call it the OnePlus 10 Pro, the Moto G, and the S22 Ultra. The full names are the Moto G 5G, the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G, and theGalaxy S22 Ultra 5G. I am not going to list every phone with 5G in the name here. I don't have the time or patience to do such a thing. Why does the point need to be hammered home when you can pretty much be sure that any phone over a certain price will come with 5G today?
I wondered if adding 5G to the name was a condition of a licensing agreement with Qualcomm, and it still could be, but there is a lack of consistency in the product range, and some phones get 5G added to their names.
The Realme GT 2 Pro doesn't have 5G in its name, but it does have a 5G modem and a chip. The Realme 9 is listed as the Realme 9 5G on the website. The S21 in the U.K. was powered by the same processor as the one in the North America version. The Nord 2T 5G is powered by the same company as theNord 2T. I wouldn't change my mind if it turned out to be a licensing thing, as it wouldn't stop it from being an outdated practice.
As we leave 2022, the trend is not going to die out. One of the first phones that we officially know about is the OnePlus 11. I am not surprised that the OnePlus 11 will have 5G, and I would be even more surprised if it didn't. Most of the mid-range and flagship phones have 5G, so singling out those that don't have it would be more meaningful for buyers.
There are six different Realme 9 phones on the company's website. Four of the six phones have 5G modem, but only two of them have 5G in the name. The range is a subject for a different story and this is stupid. The Realme 9 and Realme 9i are the ones that worry me because they show the way forward.
For longevity's sake, most people will want a phone with 5G on board. The special tag at the end of the name is what made the S10 5G so special. There is no need for the tag in the year 2023. The feature is considered standard today. The Realme 9 4G and the Realme 9i 4G are the only Realme phones that don't have 5G.
Let's tag phones that don't have 5G
5G isn't a point of differentiation anymore and shouting it out doesn't help anyone. Nobody actually says it. You won't ever hear "I've got the new S22 Ultra 5G" because there isn't one without 5G. It needs to change if it is a licensing agreement. Marketing departments need to quit if it is a habit of the manufacturers.
Get them to slap 4G onto the phones that don't have 5G. It may help inform at least one purchase in the future, and that's more than putting 5G at the end of the next flagship phone's name will do
