Batson has been charged with five crimes stemming from his arrest.
According to Fulton County jail records, Batson was booked on Saturday and charged with assault, battery, and assault against a law enforcement officer when engaged in official duty.
Depending on the crime, Batson could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
Batson was pulled over in the middle of the night. Police allegedly saw his pickup truck speeding on the freeway on Saturday morning. Batson fought with the officer after police tried to take him into custody for being drunk.
According to police, the officer fired his gun, hitting no one, before Batson got back into his truck and fled. He crashed the truck, fled on foot, and was found by police and arrested. Batson and the officer were hospitalized.
Batson's arrest was acknowledged by the Falcons in a statement.
The statement said that they were gathering information from law enforcement agencies after being made aware of an overnight incident involving Batson. We don't have any further comment at the moment.
