Warwick Davis as Willow in the 2022 sequel series.

Jon Kasdan had said before the release of the sequel series that it would take some time to make Madmartigan look like the original film. Kilmer had throat cancer in 2015 and has undergone a number of treatments.

The past week's episode, " Prisoners of Skellin", brought back the character of Kilmer in a different way. As Allagash and the teens look for a magic artifact inside the tomb of Wiggledoom Kit, she hears her father call to her from somewhere inside the tomb. Getting him out of Skellin will serve as part of the drive for the season's final two episodes, as he is trapped in either Skellin or another dimension.

As far as how the show brought Madmartigan to vocal life, Kasdan revealed that it was a combination of a few things, with two of them being that they recorded Kilmer's performance. According to Kasdan, he has a resemblance to his father in his voice. Lucasfilm sound designer David W. Collins took Jack's voice and blended it with Sonantic.

There is a larger discussion about the place of technology in the art community at the same time as the use of artificial intelligence in willow. Many in the entertainment industry don't like ArtStation taking a "well, let's wait and see approach" to allow art made by the technology to exist on their platforms. Artificial intelligence is made from art that was created by humans who know how to draw hands and fingers.

This isn't the first time Disney has used artificial intelligence. Darth Vader's vocal performance was preserved when James Earl Jones signed away his voice to an artificial intelligence firm. It was weird at the time, and the feeling of being iffy to use from a business and creative standpoint may never really go away.
