Bradley Dack's goal was the difference in the game as it gave Blackburn a second win of the season.

There was no goal in the first half.

Dack's shot went off Jack Simpson and into the net.

The visitors had chances of their own, but the Championship's lowest scoring players were too much for them and kept them out of the top flight.

When the teams below them play later on Sunday, the three-point lead over the bottom three could be cut in half.

The gap between them and the two automatic promotion spots has been closed by victory, though second-placeSheffield United could regain their advantage when they visit Queens Park Rangers on Monday night.

Even though they had lost four of their previous five matches in the Championship, Jon Dahl Tomasson's men still held on to third place.

Only one team in England's top five divisions hasn't drawn this season, and that's Doncaster.

Only two teams in the bottom three have lost more games than the ones in the top two.

That was in stark contrast to the four matches in a row that Cardiff had drawn.

Their lowest scorer in the Championship has been because of a lack of goals with 20 from 26 games.

The team looked short on attacking quality and confidence, often failing to turn promising positions into real scoring opportunities.

After inviting passes from Ryan Wintle and Callum O'Dowda went unrewarded, a swift counter-attack which should have led to a goal was stopped by an excellent covering tackle from JakeGarrett.

The pitch at Ewood Park was muddy and made it difficult for both sides to play with any kind of rhythm.

In the first half, only a few long-range efforts were made, with the best of them falling to Robinson, whose low shot was stopped by Kaminski.

The game's only goal was scored three minutes into the second half when the first shot on target inside the penalty area came back off the woodwork.

Simpson was hit by the ball before it dribbled into the net. The goal was not easy to score.

After taking the lead, the home side had a couple of other chances on goal, but Allsop was able to keep them out.

As they held on for a valuable three points, they didn't need to overexert themselves in the final stages.

Jon Tomasson is a manager.

I'm very happy to have gotten the win. It was a hard game to play. The gameplan was to sit back with a 4-5-1 which was hard to play against.

"We started with great energy, then at half-time we spoke about some solutions to get more dangerous and we did that immediately in the second half and got the goal."

We probably should have gotten more goals, but we stuck to the task. The job boys did a great job. It's a good way to start the year.

Mark Hudson is the manager of the Welsh team.

I'm very angry. I thought changing shape would give us more attacking threat, but it didn't work out that way.

We tried to change it up but didn't really pose a threat to their goal. The way we started the second half was similar to the way we ended the first.

We need to keep working." We have to believe that we can create and have faith in our abilities.
