CNN's coverage of New Year's Eve was supposed to go off without a hitch, after all the fuss about the network banning on-air talent from drinking alcohol.

But it was not to be, as the network completely missed the count in the Central time zone, instead ringing in 2023 with on-screen footage of host Don Lemon and revelers in New Orleans dancing.

At the end of the clock, Lemon throws beaded necklaces into the crowd, only to realize that the announcement had been missed.

Lemon asked the crowd if they were ready for the event.

In Nashville, there were fireworks and celebrations that people had not missed.

CNN's decision to bar its correspondents from drinking alcohol while covering the event caused social media to pick up the flub.

The on-air hosts got more drunk as the night went on.

Andy Cohen went off on Bill de Blasio, the former mayor of New York City, and Ryan Seacrest, the host of ABC's "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve."

Cohen said on social media that he had been over served.

Lemon was unable to hear his producers through his earpiece due to a technical issue.
