You did not think they would do it.

Everyone outside of Fort Worth, Texas, has predicted that the team would lose every week. The College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl was going to be a great game, but it ended in a tie. I don't think it's a good idea. Michigan was going to win the game.

It rolled over instead.

It might have been motivation enough for the Frogs to advance to theCFP national championship game, where they will face defending national champion and No. 1 Georgia on January 9 at Sofi Stadium. Georgia can become the first program to win back-to-back national titles since Alabama in 2012 with a victory in the national title game. USC and Nebraska won back-to-back national titles in 2003 and 1994 respectively. The program tied Alabama for the most wins over a two-season span in SEC history with 28.

It's going to be a monumental challenge for TCU, which went 5-7 a year ago and didn't win a title this year. The team that was picked to finish 7th in the Big 12 is used to being doubted.

The season has exceeded expectations all season long. The Frogs have captured the nation's attention, riding a wave called a Hypnotoad. It has been difficult to come by sincere respect. Nothing will happen if the wins against Michigan and Georgia are not repeated.

Georgia is building the sport's next dynasty while TCU is trying to win a national title for the first time in 83 years. Georgia Tech won the national title after being unranked in the preseason AP poll.

The Frogs won't get much of a chance to do it outside of Fort Worth.

The top two teams in the country, Georgia and TCU.

AT&T is the title sponsor of the national championship.

The players believed each other and that's why they played a big part in the win.

The team that wasn't ranked this preseason to the national championship game has been catapulted into the bright lights by the coach known for his down-to-earth personality. He worked magic, navigating the Frogs through nail-biters and comebacks all season, but on Saturday evening when it mattered the most, they had the upper hand. The first head football coach in Big 12 history to start 12-0 in his first season assembled a staff that outcoached Michigan for most of the game It's his second stint with the Frogs, as he was an offensive analyst on the team that won the Big 12 title last year. SMU had three straight winning seasons for the first time since the mid-'80's and their first back-to-back wins over TCU since 1992-93 under the leadership of the son of Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes. Hire him if you're not able to beat him.

If Georgia isn't already the next Alabama, Kirby Smart has positioned the state to be. Smart's resume includes five SEC East titles and two SEC Championships and he won his 80th game on Saturday. The program earned its first national title in 41 years and began to tilt the balance of power in the SEC with its victory over Alabama. Before he was hired at Georgia, Smart took Nick Saban's championship plan with him. He has developed the culture, lured in the program's seventh top- three signing class and put the program in position to win it all.

How they got here

The Big 12 predicted that the Frogs would finish seventh. The Frogs became the first Big 12 team to finish the regular season with a perfect record since 2009, but it wasn't always easy. The Frogs won five games this season when trailing at halftime, but ended the season with a perfect record. The Big 12 championship game was won by Kansas State in overtime. The Frogs lost a close game to a ranked opponent that they had beaten in the regular season. An important claim to impress the selection committee is that the Frogs were able to beat the Big 12 champion. The Frogs' offense has been elevated to one of the nation's best, and the quarterback has been one of the most prolific deep ball passers with 13 completions of at least 50 yards.

The last national title was held in 1936.

After winning the program's first national title in 30 years, questions immediately surfaced if Georgia could do it again without five first-round NFL draft picks. One step away is where the bulldogs are again. It began in the season opener with a complete dismantling of Oregon, and continued through the selection day. 1 in the world, did you hear about it? They established themselves as the clear-cut No. 1 team in the eyes of the selection committee. Georgia secured its place in the College Football Playoff again thanks to another stellar defense and the leadership of quarterback Stetson Bennett, who led the team to a 50-30 win over LSU in the SEC Championship game. The second-fewest points per game were allowed by the defense in the semifinals.

The last national title was in 2011.

Georgia escaped with a miracle win over Ohio State.

The quarterback of the school is Max Duggan. He is going to the national championship game as the runner-up in the Heisman Trophy. The Frogs have been so hard to bring down that it's an unlikely story. One of the toughest players in the country to defend because of his sheer will and ability to run and throw the deep ball is Duggan. It was the longest reception Michigan had allowed since 2019.

Georgia has a quarterback named Deonte Bennett. His journey from a walk-on to a national champion has been well documented, but his story isn't over. The Georgia quarterback enters his second straight national championship with a better record as a starter than he did in his first one. Bennett has been driven by the doubters throughout his career and has been critical to Georgia's success. He has set a school record for completions and has accounted for seven rushing touchdown.

Matchup to watch: TCU's offensive line vs. Georgia's defensive line

If it is going to have a chance at the upset, it's going to have to win this battle so that it can establish its running game. The Frogs can make big plays in the passing game, but they can't be a one-dimensional team.

Georgia entered Saturday night's game with one of the top rushing defenses in the country, holding opponents to less than 2 yards per carry and 5 rushing touchdown.

The receiver for the Horned Frogs is from Texas. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Johnston has created problems for defenses with his ability to rack up yards after catching a ball. Despite missing two games with a high ankle injury, he is still the team's leading receiver with 1,066 yards, 59 catches and six touchdown catches. The Frogs have been given the freedom to stretch the field, and some of his best performances came against the toughest competition. The Frogs were leading by just under four minutes to play. He did it again in a double-overtime victory against Oklahoma State. He could be the first receiver taken in the first round.

There is a photo from the SEC championship game that shows how much havoc Carter can wreak on a quarterback. In the picture, Daniels is being held in his left arm like a toy by the defensive tackle, who is holding up his right hand to signal. Carter is projected to be the top pick, and that's where he might be. Carter had 24 tackles, 6.5 TFLs, three sacks and a pair of forced turnovers in the six games leading up to the semifinals.
