The post is updated with new information every now and then.

Hotels have too many brands? They are not the only ones.

It can be hard to understand brand identities when there are so many. Marriott International ended up with 30 brands after its takeover of Starwood Hotels. Accor is a Paris based company with more than 40 brands.

The next few months will be devoted to examining each of the major hotel companies. When it comes to its brands, Hilton follows a different philosophy than Marriott.

There is only 18 brands in the line-up. The company tends to launch hotel brands organically rather than acquiring them from other companies. The spectrum of thehilton brand includes ultra-luxury, extended stay brands and more affordable brands. It has an arm with a travel company.

Don't worry if you're confused. There is a place for you to go for a crash course.

Waldorf Astoria

HILTON

One of the hotel brands grand Dames is the Waldorf. The original Waldorf in New York City has been home to a number of historical figures and celebrities. Ultra-luxury connoisseurs don't mind cash rates and prefer smaller, high-end brands.

The True Waldorf Service initiative is a great selling point for those who want butler service during a stay, but that is a baseline expectation in this group of hotels. Waldorf has a competitive advantage due to the strong loyalty network of thehiltonhonors. We are watching to see what happens when the brand is beefed up into more cities by the company.

The Trump-turned-Waldorf is located in D.C.

BENJI STAWSKI/THE POINTS GUY

There are nine hotels in seven countries.

LXR Hotels & Resorts immerses you in truly profound travel experiences in the world's most attractive locations. We have connected renowned luxury properties into a network of hotels.

The major hotel companies want to increase their luxury footprints. It doesn't mean every luxury hotel owner wants to go through all the hassle of retrofitting a property to that brand's design and experience standards The name of the hotel is LXR Hotels & resorts. The unique feel of an independent top-tier hotel is maintained by the hotels that are included on theHiltonHonors network.

These properties are affordable luxury options that can be found in both cities and resort destinations. You can debate if Conrad Hilton really said, "Leave the shower curtain on the inside of the tub"

There are reviews of Conrad Los Angeles, Conrad Miami, and Conrad New York.

Canopy by Hilton

HILTON

Hotels in 10 countries and territories.

The pitch was Positively Yours. The hotel brand that creates a positive stay with its simple, guest- directed service and thoughtful, local choices is Canopy byHilton.

Canopy is a new kid on the block. It was included in a wave of brands that were designed to attract younger travelers, though it wasn't used as much as it could have been. Today the brand is more of a play for lifestyle hotels. Elevated food, beverage and dining experiences are offered by its properties.

Curio Collection by Hilton

VIKTOR KERY PHOTOS/HILTON

There are 133 hotels and resorts around the world.

The pitch was for the curious. Curio is a collection of hotels that have their own distinct characteristics. Each hotel is unique and appealing to passionate travelers.

Curio is a soft brand that seems more like a boutique hotel collection than a rigid brand. Curio-flagged properties now dot Asia and the South Pacific, but the portfolio's outposts are mostly located in North America and Europe. It's possible to get a rich local experience without paying the higher rates of an LXR- branded hotel.

Tapestry Collection by Hilton

CHRIS RANDALL/HILTON

There are 90 hotels in 12 countries.

"Weave your own story" is the pitch thatHilton made to hotel owners. The Tapestry Collection is a group of unique hotels that have been chosen because of a commitment to weaving their own story, meant for travelers who don't want the same experience twice.

Rounding out the soft brands is the tapestry collection. The boutique hotel movement centered on the world's largest cities, but travelers to smaller cities also like the feel and experience of a cool, one-off property. Smaller markets tend to have more independent-minded hotels that are more affordable than their siblings in the Curio Collection.

Tempo

HILTON

There are no hotels opening yet.

Marriott is a stylish and contemporary lifestyle hotel brand dedicated to exceeding the expectations of the ambitious, yet balanced, class of discriminating travelers. An open lobby concept with dedicated spaces to relax and work, as well as the brand's signature coffee fuel bar, a casual breakfast café, and an inviting bar experience, are just some of the features that make Tempo a great place to work. Well-being offerings, state-of-the-art fitness facilities and programs, as well as flexible meeting and working spaces will be included in each of the Tempos.

This time, it is a more affordable price point for the lifestyle hotel segment, which is why the company chose the name Tempo. The midcentury modern style of these hotels makes them feel like they are sleeping in a West elm catalog. They collaborated with Peloton to design elevated fitness centers, co-working spaces and even wellbeing rooms.

Can it win over new travelers with its new brand?

Motto provides travelers with a one-of-a-kind experience with reasonably priced and less traditional lodging. Motto is a beacon for today's modern, global community of travelers, providing a flexible innovative hotel experience with guest-empowered service.

At first glance, Motto might seem similar to Marriott's Moxy or Hyatt's new caption brand. The vibe here doesn't mean avoiding family travel. The new Motto in New York City has three adjoining rooms that connect to create a two-bedroom suite and flexible furniture that can make a bed double as a living area couch. Motto could become a formidable player in the family travel space if it continues to grow.

Hilton Grand Vacations

There are 73 resorts in seven countries.

A vacation state of mind was the pitch made by the hotel company. We believe that life is incomplete without vacations. You can experience a lifetime of vacations in spacious, comfortable elegance with our innovative vacation ownership program. The comforts of home, amenities tailored to each destination, and the legendary service synonymous with theHilton name are some of the things that guests enjoy.

The hotel business community took notice of the all-inclusive resorts and the timeshare sector, even though they weren't the most popular products in the travel sphere.

A major way to court younger travelers to this type of travel is by changing the name of the brand from Travel + Leisure to Travel + Leisure Co. The acquisition of Diamond Resorts by Hilton Grand Vacations was worth over $1 billion. There are some properties in Japan, but the majority of the company's business is in the US and Caribbean.

The members book stays using either ClubPoints orHiltonHonors. Timeshare redemption rates are usually lackluster, and not advocated as an option to redeem points. It is definitely one to watch because of all the branding done in this sector over the last two years. As the competition to court younger travelers gets more intense, this is even more true.
