New Year's Day falls on a Sunday. Many government offices and businesses will be closed on New Year's Day, as well as on Monday, January 2nd, because it is a federal holiday. It is possible that some places of business will be closed on New Year's Eve.

Financial markets are usually closed on Sunday and will be closed on January 2nd. What about the rest?

Is the US stock market open on New Year's?

You can expect a lot of things.

Mail and packages

The USPS will not deliver mail on New Year's Day. The priority express mail will be delivered both days.

FedEx will not offer service on New Year's Day. Express delivery will not be offered on January 2nd.

There will be no delivery or pick up on January 1 and January 2. The stores will be closed on New Year's Day.

Banks

The majority of banks will be closed on New Year's Day and New Year's Eve. You can still use your bank's app for certain services.

Government offices

Federal and state government offices are closed on New Year's Day. National parks will be closed on New Year's day.

Most public and private schools won't be open on January 1 and January 2.

Stores

Stores are open on New Year's Day. For example, Trader Joe's and Costco are both closed on New Year's Day. It is always a good idea to check with the store before shopping.
