  • Hank Green has been tagged in a female science Tiktoker's video.

  • She has a PhD in physics, which is more relevant than Green's.

  • Green felt weird when he was asked to weigh in on other creators' videos.

A TikToker who claims to be a materials physicist is asking viewers to stop referring to Hank Green in her content.

On December 13th, the TikToker posted a picture of a nuclear-fusion experiment and said she would be shocked if it didn't win a prize.

A day later, a follow-up video was posted and the person who commented on it replied.

She said that it would be nice if we could just stop doing it.

She wanted to know if Hank Green had a PhD in physics. He doesn't." I want to know if I have a PhD in physics. I do.

She said that it's in a focus of high-pressure materials which is relevant to the video. Ask the creator if you have a question. Don't say "We need Hank Green to explain" because you don't.

Insider was unable to verify her credentials because the user did not reply immediately.

Green, who has a bachelor's in biochemistry and a master's in environmental studies, is a hugely popular creator who makes scientific content for his 7.3 million followers. John Green is the brother of him.

He addresses the fact that people tag him in other people's videos.

If you see someone with a video on TikTok, and they explain something about our universe, you're like, 'Is that for a real?' You might have an inclination to ask if it's real. On February 8th, Green spoke to viewers. Can you check to see if that person knows more about that topic than I do, since we all have our expertises and mine are limited?

"I'm very happy to have established some amount of credibility in the space, but there are many, many people who know more about the things they know about than I do," he said. I think it can be a little weird for them to see me getting tagged in their comments when they know more about me, and I think that I feel a little bit weird about it as well.

The creators of TikTok have said they deal with commenters who refer to male opinions.

Charlotte Moore-Lambert replied to a comment on one of her videos. She said in a TikTok that she did not want viewers to tag male creators to corroborate her videos.

Moore-Lambert said that she would be happy to check her facts. Please do that!" You need to do that on your own. I will double- and triple-check my facts if asked. The men who already follow me should not be summoned.

There is a well-researched phenomenon of gender bias in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Scientists subconsciously associate science with men, regardless of gender or specialty. Men were invited to speak twice as often as women.
