United Cup: Cameron Norrie beats Rafael Nadal as Britain go 2-0 up over Spain

Great Britain took a 2-0 lead over Spain in their United Cup group stage match, thanks to a win by Cameron Norrie and a loss by Nuria Parrizas- Diaz.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion was beaten by Norrie in the Ken Rosewall Arena.

He had lost to Nadal before.

Norrie said it was a good way to end the year.

I thought I'd never won a set against him, but I wanted to do that first.

I had to remain patient. The match was very physical and I liked it. It was important to get through that and beat him. The match was crazy.

Norrie broke Nadal's serve in the sixth game of the second set and held his own to level the match.

The world's 14th ranked player broke early in the third set and saved two break points before serving out the victory.

The first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, will be defended by Nadal.

Nadal said that he did a lot of things well.

I have time before the Australian Open to improve, but there's still a way to go.

Swan came back from a set down to win the game.

It was a confident performance from Swan, who is the world number 145.

Britain needs one win from their remaining three matches against Spain to advance to the knockout stages.

Paula Badosa will faceHarriet Dart in the first match on Sunday, followed by Dan Evans and Pablo Carreno Busta in the deciding mixed doubles match.

There are six groups of three teams in the tournament.

The United States, Germany, and the Czech Republic are all vying for a place in the semi-finals.
