Donald Trump has floated the idea of running a third-party campaign if Republican leaders don't support him in the presidential race.

Trump posted an article on Truth Social Wednesday that promoted the option.

According to the author of the article in the right-wing journal American Greatness, such a move would ruin Trump's chances of winning the White House. It would be a good punishment for rejecting the popular former president because it would wipe out Republican hopes.

Is Trump a third party candidate? It is not possible to say yes. I don't know if I would vote for him as a third party candidate. I agree. He wrote that he was not interested in helping the GOP gravy train anymore.

He said that the Republican machine wouldn't allow them to choose Trump again. They would rather lose an election than win one with Trump.

When a majority of Republicans want Trump, what should we do? Are we going to vote for Ron DeSantis because he is better than any Democrat? We don't knuckle under.

The idea of a third party has been floated by Trump before, but it was mostly out of revenge.

According to Jonathan Karl's book, "Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show," Donald Trump once told the Republican National Committee chair that he was done with the GOP and was starting his own party.

We will lose forever if you do that.

You lose forever without me, that's right. I don't pay much attention. This is what Republicans should have done for me.

McConnell said that Trump's political clout had diminished.
