She died surrounded by her family. Barbara had been unwell for a long time.

The legend of ABC died in New York City. Barbara had stopped living in the public eye several years ago. She hadn't been seen in a long time.

Barbara's career was catapulted by her coverage of the assassination of JFK. She came on-air to give a man's perspective from New York City.

She went on to become one of the longest-serving journalists in the game, first working for NBC's "Today" show as a writer and researcher, and later becoming their first female co host.

In 1976, Barbara got a job at ABC. She was the first woman to anchor a network news show, but her co host didn't like it and it made it hard for her to succeed. She appeared on the show for decades and became a fixture and regular contributor.

Some of her biggest interviews were featured on "20/20," as well as other shows, which included notable face-to-face conversations with people like Monica Lewinsky, Patrick Swayze, and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. There is a list going on and on.

Her other accomplishments include co-created and cohosted ABC's popular daytime talk show, "The View", which became one of her main focuses after leaving "20/20" in 2004. After her official send-off on "The View", she made guest appearances.
