David Blough will start at quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

After experiencing additional concussion symptoms following Thursday's practice, the decision was made to sit him.

Blough and the Las Vegas Raiders will be the 63rd and 64th quarterbacks to start an NFL game this season, tying a non-strike record. There were 87 different starting quarterbacks in the 1987 strike year.

Only 11 of the 32 teams in the National Football League have a starting quarterback. The Los Angeles Rams and the ArizonaCardinals will both have four starting quarterbacks on Sunday.

Blough found out Friday morning that he would get the ball in Atlanta over McSorley.

It will give him a chance to evaluate Blough before he chooses between McSorley and Blough for the final game of the season.

Blough was surprised to hear that he would start. He hasn't thrown a pass in a year and a half and will be making his first start since 2019.

Blough said, "You never know how many opportunities you get in this league, and to be able to be standing here after getting here a few weeks ago, I'm excited to go cut it loose and give these guys everything I have."

When asked how McSorley reacted to the news, he said he was a competitior.

Blough said both co-pass-game coordinators and quarterbacks coach have been working with him to teach him the offense.

He did a good job this week. We will tailor the script to what he feels good about and let him play fast and execute at a high level.

Blough said he hasn't had a chance to play in Texas Tech's Air Raid offense because he grew up watching it.

Blough said that as a backup, you have to prepare yourself as if you are going to play. I think an opportunity like this has come along and you have to prove that you can handle these situations.

Blough might be without a top target on Sunday. There was a little bit of a knee issue that led to the departure of WIDE RECEIVER DEANDRE HOPKINS from practice before the open portion ended.

The decision is expected to be made on Saturday.
