The PC gaming platform is coming to town as part of the holiday update. Two years ago, Musk promised that you would be able to play The Witcher 3 using the car's built-in hardware. I won't be able to play it, and it doesn't look like there will be any easy way to upgrade.

Over the years, the Model 3 has received a number of upgrades, including a new user interface, autopilot, and arcade games. In my car, all of the fancy new software fromTesla is running on the Intel Atom, which is a cheap processor from the previous decade. I wish my Model 3 could playSteam games.

The latest Model S and X vehicles are more expensive than what I paid for my 3, so support for PC games from Steam is only available for them.

The new S and X vehicles from 2021, and early 2022, don't have the needed 16GB of RAM, but they do have the "PS5-level" graphics chips based onAMD RDNA2 but don't have the required amount of memory.

Musk confirmed that there will be a retrofit offered for those models.

There are a lot of cool new features that my Model 3 can take advantage of. Easter eggs include always-on rainbow road graphics for autopilot, the ability to remotely monitor your pet while in dog mode, and the ability to play Apple Music in the car.

The holiday update has a brand new holiday light show that can time up with otherTeslas. I am happy that the cards that showed trip info and tire pressure were brought back, as well as the removal of seat heating buttons from the bottom bar.

The technical details of what it takes for games to run at high graphics settings in a car are included in the video. It uses a Linux virtual machine, Steam Deck verified games, and of course, GPU acceleration from hardware.

The Model 3 and Y vehicles that started shipping this time last year came with some upgrades, too. The new hardware, known as MCU3 in theTesla community, shows improved performance throughout the OS, but it doesn't come with the graphics needed to run many resource-laden games.

There is no official word on whether older cars with the Intel-based MCU2 (like mine) can get a retrofit, which would be awesome since apps I can run, likeNetflix and the web browser, are feeling more sluggish nowadays.

The founder of aTesla Owners Online forum said that the new Model 3 and Y might need the new 12V battery. It's not likely that the ability to make in-car Zoom calls will be available to the Intel Atom-basedTeslas.

I will only be able to play games like Stardew Valley, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Cuphead in my Model 3 if I pack an actual Steam account. The unofficial Xbox cloud gaming workaround isn't perfect.

The update got me Apple Music, so I no longer have to pay for a service to listen to music on my computer.
