According to data from the Federal Election Commission, a billionaire who co-founded Home Depot has donated more than $60 million to political causes.

In an interview with the Financial Times, 93-year-old Bernard Marcus blamed the change on socialism.

Give it to me and I'll take care of it for you. I need money. I don't want to work, I'm too lazy, I'm fat, and I'm stupid, and Home Depot may not have been as successful if I'd founded it today.

Home Depot has over 2,300 stores in North America. Despite the hiring challenges some businesses are still experiencing, the US unemployment rate is at its lowest in decades.

Marcus has supported Trump's presidential campaigns in both 2016 and 2020. Home Depot distanced itself from him after he publicly supported Trump.

In a statement provided to Insider, a Home Depot spokesman said that the co-founder's views don't represent the company.

FEC data obtained by Insider shows that Marcus has donated over $60 million to political campaigns and political action committees.

Many of the donations went to support Republican candidates.

Some of Marcus's largest donations have gone to conservative groups that supported Trump.

He made two donations of $5 million each to a single-candidate political action committee that supports Trump.

In 2016 Marcus made two donations, one for $3 million and one for $2 million, to the super PAC that supported Trump's campaign. Making America Number 1 received $2 million from him.

Marcus gave more than 15 million dollars to the Senate Leadership Fund and more than 5 million dollars to the Congressional Leadership Fund over the course of two years.

Tom Cotton, Mike Lee, Chuck Grassley,Mitch McConnell, and Tim Scott are just a few of the Republican politicians that Marcus has contributed to.

Herschel Walker, the failed Senate candidate from Georgia, and Sen. Joe Manchin, the West Virginia Democrat have both received donations from Marcus.

Most of Marcus and Billi's estimated $8.9 billion fortune will be given to charity. They signed a pledge to give most of their wealth to charity.
