The UK Health Security Agency ceased to publish the reproduction number and growth rate for Covid-19 in the UK on the Friday before Christmas in order to bury bad news.

When the R value and growth rate show that the prevalence of Covid is increasing in the UK, this decision was made. There are a number of attempts to reduce the availability of information about Covid. Due to the fact that tests are no longer freely available, contact tracing has ceased, and daily reporting of infections stopped when people were told there was no longer a need to use masks or self-isolate, there isn't much data about tests.

In the week to December 19th, 7,158 people were admitted to hospital in England with Covid, an increase of 36% compared with the previous week. I hope your readers have a good year. Dr. Ramsden is from Keynes.

I started a coronaviruses diary on 7 March 2020 as a daily record of people I talked to during Covids, kindnesses of friends and neighbours, meals cooked, TV and films watched, books read, even Guardian letters published.

I kept a diary for 30 months until I turned 75. Nearly all of our friends and family had suffered one or more times, but my husband and I had not. Wishing a happy new year to fellow Covid escapers, as well as warmest wishes to those who are less fortunate, hoping that the year will bring good health, peace and goodwill.
