Every year, the credit card benefits and welcome bonuses are changed. The changes to your card can make you happy. You are sometimes not.
There were a lot of changes in the year. This year has seen a lot of credit cards.
Here are the highlights of credit card changes this year.
Major updates to Marriott's credit card lineup took place. The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card was overhauled and two new credit cards were launched.
Changes to Marriott Bonvoy credit card lineup include new cards and perks.
The partnership benefits were added to multiple credit cards. Extending its DoorDash benefits, modifying its benefits, and launching a set of benefits with Instacart were all part of this. Changes were made to Chase's lineup of IHG credit cards in order to coincide with the launch of a new rewards program. The premier business credit card was launched. Chase's new business credit card became available to the public.
Eligible Chase cards can get up to fifteen dollars in statement credits.
American Express perks have been updated. There are more options for using your digital entertainment credits on the Platinum Card. Those with the Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card were able to take advantage of a perk that gave them up to 7% off on room rates for paid stays. Better earning rates at U.S. gas stations and statement credits for Home Chef and the Disney bundle helped improve the Blue Cash Everyday Card. The monthly dining credits on the American Express Gold Card were changed. You must enroll in advance for certain benefits.

While American Express cards gained benefits, those with the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi and Costco Anywhere Visa® Business Card by Citi will lose a benefit in 2023.
Capital One made many changes as well. Students with student credit cards received higher earning rates with Turo. The Capital One Venture X rewards credit card gave them access to the Plaza Premium lounges, but they will lose access to non- lounge parts of Priority Pass in the future.
The launch of updated status perks with the Wyndham rewards program was seen by us. The bonuses on its co branded business cards were raised this year. New cards issued by Wells Fargo include the Bilt Mastercard® and the Wells Fargo Autograph SM Card.
Changes were made by Bank of America. The Virgin Atlantic World Elite Mastercard® no longer accepts new applications and the Bank of America stopped issuing other cards. Capital One became the new partner for Major League Baseball credit cards, while First National Bank of Omaha began issuing the Amtrak guest rewards credit cards.
Credit card applications for Amtrak are back for the first time in a year.
The Points Guy collected the information for the Virgin Atlantic, Wells Fargo, and Amtrak cards. The card issuer did not review or provide the card details on this page.
There have been many changes to credit cards over the last two years.
Readers were asked to tell us what they wanted to see from their credit cards, so we could make them more rewarding. Readers have a credit card perks wish list.
The comments have been edited for context.
Many people see a frustration that datememe datememe datememe has.
I want to see all the cards make things simpler. The points people are the only ones doing all the things. People don't have time for everything. I don't know anyone who isn't familiar with the benefits of these cards. Is the goal to give them or not to give real benefits? All cards should use the Amazon one-click method if it is true.
Users discussed American Express and the Amex Platinum Card in general.
Wishing monthly spending offers would be easier to find is a general wish.
Carol wants to make it easier to use offers. A "clip all" feature is something I would like to see. It is possible for me to go in once a month. It is difficult to look at all the offers each month.
That wasn't a coupon book, but a no-preset-spending-limit card. I don't want to lose my credit history if I eliminate my American Express Green Card.
The points guy collected the information for the Amex Green Card. The card issuer did not review or provide the card details on this page.
The Amex Platinum card needs to be focused on travel and away from lifestyle stuff.
Mark is not the only one who received a lot of likes and replies to his comment. It has become more difficult to maximize the credits and perks on the card according to several users.
When they grow up, premier credit cards should decide what they want to be. Pick a lane and commit to something. All the benefits related to that choice should be made. The benefit is useless to me as a frequent international traveler. The Clear credit isn't useful to someone who isn't travelling.
There are 6 new benefits for the Amex Platinum in 2021.
Amex Platinum has bonuses other than booking travel through the portal. I use competitors cards because I get better redemptions and points. The Platinum Card isn't worth it for me when I have the Capital One card as well. The up to $200 hotel credit needs to be simpler to use. In the last three cities I have been to, there were no Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection facilities to use the credit on.
The same feelings and wishes were expressed for the Amex Platinum Card's other credits. It's necessary to enroll.
There is a need for a better travel credit redemption. We only spend ours when we travel to Southwest. We don't pay airline fees outside of inflight.
The annual airline credits on the Amex Platinum Card were not as restrictive as some people wanted. It's necessary to enroll.
Amex is the only card issuer that restricts travel credits. Wouldn't it be great if we could just make a generic travel credit instead of a crazy list of things that work?
Steven had more than one wish about American Express.
Steven wants Amex to offer a consumer credit card with 2 Membership rewards points for every dollar spent. The Blue Business Plus Credit Card can be used for personal cards. The Capital One Venture rewards credit card is the only one of its kind for personal cards.
I would like to see Amex add more transfer partners. JAL, Korean Air, and some access into the Miles & More program are great examples. It would allow for direct access to flights. If they followed the Venture X and Sapphire Reserve with 10 points and miles per dollar on hotels booked via Amex Travel, it would be great. Half of what competitors are offering is offered by them. It would be great if they guaranteed loyalty perks when booking via FHR.
Steven wasn't the only one who wanted a change.
American Express needs more airline travel partners. Transferring to an alliance or points partner of the airline you really want to fly on is time consuming and fraught with difficulty.
The hotel transfer options are not available for Amex's airline program partners. The Hyatt program is the only one where 1:1 transfers are valuable. Is it possible to increase Amex transfers from 1:2 to 1:?
You can find your ultimate guide to searching award availability for the airlines.
There is a request to bring back lost protection.
There was a return of extended warranty perks. The loss of the extended warranty is a big deal.
There are credit cards for extended warranty.
One wish is for a preferred airline to be picked up by one of the major banks.
I would like to see a transfer of flexible points to American Airlines.
They wanted to see Capital One cards evolve in the coming year.
I wish the card offered more benefits. I don't fly a lot of airlines, but I don't think the annual fee is worth it since they don't offer many incentives. You would think they would offer more than just free checked bags.
There are three reasons why a premium credit card is needed by JetBlue.
I would love to see more benefits on the Capital One Venture X to compete with Amex.
There's a side-by-side comparison of the best credit cards.
Readers asked for perks to be easier to use on the Amex Platinum Card and for the travel category to be expanded. Other wishes for last year included elite status with the Sapphire Reserve, bonus earnings on cruises from a credit card and one-time passes for breakfast and seat upgrades. We didn't see any of those in the year 2022.
Will the wishes of readers come true? It will only be time that tells.
