According to a report by Business Standard, mobile devices in India will be required to use the standard charging port for electronic products by March25. This follows similar legislation being passed by the European Union which requires new smartphones and other portable devices sold within the EU to useusb-c charging by December 28th, 2024 in a move meant to combat e-waste.
The Indian government is looking into the possibility of making sure that there is a standard charge for the devices. The Secretary to the Department of Consumer Affairs said that the government would come up with two types of charging ports. There is no information about which format could be used.
Wearables could be unified in India.
India overtook the US to become the world's second-largest smartphone market back in 2019, and it's currently estimated that over 95 percent of the country uses a mobile device. Apple has seen significant sales growth in the region where it now manufactures the iPhone 14 due to the fact that the device uses the Apple Lightning port. Apple has publicly confirmed that it will comply with the new EU rules, despite previously resisting them.
