Cowboys the best in the NFC?! Orlovsky stunned by Irvin's claim (2:13)

The Cowboys are said to be the top team in the NL. There is a time and a place for it.

6:00 AM ET

Tony Pollard had just been named a Pro Bowl running back when he got a call. It was someone else, that's right.

Pollard said that he could have been the first to hit him.

Since the Cowboys selected him with the 4th overall pick in the 2016 draft, he has been their main runner. He has been to the Pro Bowl before. He has won a couple of running titles. He has at least one 1,000-yard season. Four times he has scored double digits in a touchdown.

He has been told in the past that he should be their main man at running back.

We are a better team when we go back and forth. I might go three, Tony might go three. It could be run three times in a row by him. You can see how he wears the defense. TP is playing well right now. The more touches he gets the better. You can't say you're a team guy when things are going well. Your role can change sometimes.

With the Cowboys having at least a chance of winning theNFC East, they will play the TennesseeTitans. They can look at their opponent's way of doing things.

Henry is second in the league in rushing. He has 322 carries for the team. The majority of the time, Henry is the guy. The second most carries for a running back on the team is held by Dontrell Hilliard.

With him sitting out the 16th and final game of the regular season, the highest percentage of carries he had in a season was 69.2%. The Cowboys running back leads the team in rushing attempts with 204, but his percentage of the work is down.

Pollard missed two games with a hyperextended right knee that still causes him to wear a brace, but he still has career highs in yards and touchdown runs. He has 33 catches for 310 yards and is close to setting career highs.

"I think we're a better team when we're going back and forth," Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott (21) said of splitting the workload with Tony Pollard (20). Tom Pennington/Getty Images

It benefits our football team because those guys are fresh. They talk about that all the time. There's no excuse for them to go out. They can do whatever they want. There are plays here and there that are specifically for one or the other, but for most of the time, we run the same plays.

McCarthy said, "We play our best offense when those two guys are on the field."

Many wondered why the Cowboys didn't work to more of a split backfield last season, when they had to deal with a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament in their quarterback's knee. He did not want to rest despite his lack of explosion and quick feet.

The Cowboys wanted to get Pollard involved more.

2 is better than 1 according to the running backs.

• Should the Titans rest more players?

• Could Mayfield realistically stay in LA?

• Geno Smith's resurgence with Seattle

Pollard is ninth in the league in rushing. Even though he missed two games, he is still 16th with 822 yards. In 1969 the Cowboys had two running backs with more than 800 yards in a season, Calvin Hill and Walt Garrison. The last time two teams had two 1,000-yard running backs in the same season was in 2009, when the Carolinas had DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.

The Cowboys have had at least two running backs carry the ball at least 150 times in a season 10 times.

McCarthy wants Tony Pollard and Zeke to play their best during the playoffs. Their goal is to win a title. I have a lot of admiration for the man. He has won titles in the running game. He is familiar with what it is like. If we played that way, Tony could be that guy as well.

The partnership of Pollard andElliott has been better than either of them.

There was a brief pause when he was asked if he missed having 25 carries a game.

He said that he likes to win football. I would like to work for a long period of time.

He would love it to be with Pollard.

We are hoping for more than five, six. The man said, "elliot said."

Jerry Jones told Pollard that he was looking forward to the future and that he had made the Pro Bowl. Their future may be just a few more weeks.

Pollard is going to be an unrestricted free agent and the Cowboys could use the franchise tag on him. With no more guaranteed money left on his extension, the Cowboys could try to change his contract.

Pollard isn't focused on that right now. We are looking at something bigger at the moment. Being in the Pro Bowl is a great honor. I hope I don't get to be in it because it takes place before the Super Bowl. We plan for that.
