According to the Maryland Lottery, a Washington County man claimed $40,000 in lottery winnings after a psychic said his late father wanted him to play the lottery.

The man who won the Mega Millions prize used a different name. He bought the ticket at a convenience store.

The winner of the lottery has the option of releasing their name.

The Mega Millions grand prize hit $640 million for the final drawing of the year.

The psychic claimed that the late father of the 55 year old winner sent the numbers to Wezzie, but the Washington County man said that wasn't true. He used a Quick Pick in the drawing. Four out of five numbers were matched by him.

The lottery says the local player was a loyal scratch-off player. The man went to see the psychic.

"Wezzie" said he would put most of the Mega Millions winnings in the bank, but he might use some of it for his hobby of building cars."

He told the lottery that he and his wife no longer have a mortgage because their student loans have been paid off.
