According to a leaked memo, the shifts would be eight hours long and run all night. The airline wants employees to take a break from their regular jobs and switch to a different position.

Southwest said that more employees are helping. Extra pay wasn't mentioned in the memo.

There are new hires in crew scheduling. The "train the trainer" approach would be used to train untrained corporate employees. Southwest flights have proper scheduled cabin crew who know their flight assignments.

The airline had a disastrous Christmas weekend. More than 9000 flights were canceled between Sunday and Wednesday because of a winter storm.

Insider reported that Southwest is running on out-of-date software and that an upgrade might happen in the near future. Southwest will have automation that can handle crew reassignments quickly and efficiently according to the rep.

According to the New York Times, the airline said it could be days until normal service is restored.
