Australia whitewashed South Africa in the second Test, winning with a game to spare.

South Africa were out of the game before tea on the fourth day.

Temba Bavuma and Khaya Zondo were run out by Nathan Lyon.

The final test is in Australia.

Australia, who won the first Test inside two days, extended their lead over India at the top of the World Test Championship table. South Africa, who began the series in second, are now fourth.

Australia captain Pat Cummins described his side, who have won seven of their 11 Tests in 2022, as probably the best test team he's played in.

He said he doesn't feel like he has to do a lot. People look after themselves. The team manager makes sure the buses are on schedule.

At the moment, it's in a really good place. The place that we are in is really special and we can appreciate it. We are having a lot of fun doing it with our friends.

It was a bit of a hammering. At the moment, it's not easy.

We're playing for the pride of our team, and we're playing for the badges. A lot of guys are hurting.

Australia's victory was all but certain after they posted a mammoth 575-8 declared, featuring 200 from David Warner and Alex Carey, in reply to South Africa's 189.

The tourists avoided an eighth consecutive total of less than 200, but they never looked like taking the game into a fifth day.

Bavuma was the only batter to make more than 33 as Scott Boland claimed 2-49 on his home ground and Cummins conceded only 20 runs from 16 overs.

Steve Smith got the win in the Test by bowling Lungi Ngidi.

Mitchell Starc will miss the third Test after dislocating a finger in the first Test.

The all-rounder broke a finger in the firstinnings and has been ruled out.
