A Buffalo woman found a stranger crying for help in the blizzard with a tote bag frozen to his hands. She scrapped her Christmas plans to care for him.

Sha'Kyra Aughtry said she found a man with special needs screaming for help on the street on December 24.

Aughtry and her boyfriend decided to take the man into her home to care for his injuries.

The man in Aughtry's house was being blown up and down the street, he said in the video.

White had his hands with ice balls on them. She said that White had a tote bag that was frozen to his hands.

No one was able to help her when she called for help.

They tell me I'm on a list. Aughtry doesn't want to be on a no list. She said that the man is not going to die over here.

It took two days for White to be taken from Aughtry's home to the hospital, where he is currently being treated.

White, who is mentally disabled, did not comprehend the true severity of the storm. The goal of raising $20,000 was more than doubled by the end of the year.

White is stable and in good spirits, but it's not clear if he will have long-term damage to his hands.

She put her Christmas plans aside and tended to his wounds the best she could. Aughtry is a mother of three kids.

Dearing wrote that his friend would be dead if it weren't for her generous spirit and determination to get help.

Sha'Kyra did all of this without thinking of a reward. He said he wanted to show her at least a fraction of the support she gave him.

More than $126,000 has been raised by the page since it was set up.

"We've seen a huge amount of support for Joe and Sha'Kyra, and we're incredibly inspired by their story," the representative said.

Insider did not get a response from Aughtry.
