At least one high-profile politician who didn't vote for Ron DeSantis four years ago supported him in the Florida governor's race.

Andrew Gillum was the Democratic candidate in the race for Governor of Florida. The race was very close. A historic 1.5 million votes were cast in favor of Ron DeSantis in Florida.

The two of them haven't always agreed on things. Despite this, he supported the Republican over the democrat on election day.

During an interview with Insider at City Hall in Coconut grove, the man said that he was the better candidate. I have a professional relationship with the governor. I'm always willing to work with him.

He said that they have different styles.

He said that he wasn't surprised that Miami-Dade turned red because it was already moving in that direction and there was a lot of independence in the county. He claimed that people who moved to Florida from blue states voted Republican.

He said that they were fleeing failed policies to a place where they were not going to implement them.

Only former President Trump has made his race official so far, so both of them are widely viewed to be considering a bid for the GOP nomination in four years' time. In October, he told Punchbowl News that the former president had been kind to him, but he didn't support Trump for president in 2020.

There are areas in which the two of them disagree. At a time when he thought localities should be able to implement their own COVID-19 policies, he said on CBS.

"I felt he was initially very much in favor of local control, which is sort of a Republican principle," he said.

He said it was difficult to paint a whole state with one brush.

The governor's office acknowledged that initially the governor allowed local officials to set policies, but then restrictions kept increasing. The governing philosophy of the state is to protect individual freedoms.

The state Supreme Court agreed to have a grand jury scrutinize pharmaceutical companies' actions around COVID-19 vaccines.

He said that the governor had been pro-vaccine and that he should ask him.

According to the office of the governor, the comment "lacks nuance" due to the fact that the governor never supported vaccine mandates. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised against the vaccine for minor children.

He is the leader of the National Conference of Mayors. He has been getting a lot of attention because of the influx of tech companies moving to Miami.

"I don't blame people for wanting to take advantage of that as their success story," he said of "Florida people" who credited their policies in the state. It was Miami that was leading the way.

"This is the center of everything that's happening, and it's something that we all created as a community," he said.

There is a chance that Florida will send multiple candidates into the White House race. He told Insider that he wasn't close to making a decision, despite telling Punchbowl News that he would consider a presidential run.

The due-diligence process is a lot of work. I don't think that will be finished in the next couple of months.
