During the last week of the year, Russian forces launched a series of attacks on Kherson, trapping many people in the town.
Russian forces hit Kherson over the Christmas weekend, killing at least 10 people and hitting a maternity ward, in one of the most intense periods of shelling since Ukrainian forces regained control of the area. According to The New York Times, the Ukrainian authorities are now offering money and transportation for locals to leave the country.
In November, Ukrainian forces regained control of the southern region after a months-long Russian reign of control in Kherson, where a proxy government was installed and Russia tried to annex the area.
The deputy prime minister said on Tuesday that the enemy does not stop shelling.
At least 300 people left Kherson by train every day by the start of the week, according to the Ministry of Reintegration.
