A congressman from Maryland said Wednesday that he has a type of cancer that is very rare and can be treated.
In the next Congress, he will be the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Reform Committee.
Theprognosis for most people in my situation is excellent after four months of treatment. He said his treatment will cause hair loss.
He joked that he was still hoping for the kind that causes hair gain.
In the past few years, Raskin has played a leading role in the impeachment and investigation of Donald Trump. He was the leader of the impeachment team when the House impeached Trump a week after the attack. The final report was issued last week and will be dissolved when the new Republican-led House takes office in January.
This is the second time that the Maryland Democrat has been diagnosed with cancer, as he battled colorectal cancer in 2010. Two years ago, his son, Tommy, took his own life at the age of 25.
Tommy died a week before the insurrection, and his father-in-law brought his daughter and son-in-law to the capitol that day. As he argued for Trump's conviction in the Senate impeachment trial, Raskin cried as he talked about their experience. His daughter told him she didn't want to go back to the Capitol after hiding under a desk.
The Senate jurors who acquitted Trump for a second time said that he hit them the hardest.
He wrote a book called "Unthinkable" about dealing with his trauma.
He plans to get through this trial and keep making progress in Congress for American democracy.
