The Biden administration will require airline passengers traveling from China to test negative for Covid before entering the U.S. as concern grows thatWidespread transmission of the virus in the world's most populous country could result in new variant.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that all airline passengers two years of age and older from China, Hong Kong or Macau will have to be tested for Covid before their flight to the U.S.

The requirements apply regardless of Nationality andVaccination Status. Travelers can take a rapid self-test that is monitored by a service. The Food and Drug Administration can authorize the test.

If you were in China 10 days before your flight to the U.S., you will need to test for Covid.

According to the CDC, these three airports have the majority of U.S bound passengers coming from China.

As China battles a major outbreak of the virus, the testing requirements come as a result.

A federal health official told reporters on a call that the US has limited information on the situation in China. The official said that it is not clear what variant is circulating on the mainland because of the limited data.

The health official said that the recent rapid increase in transmission in China increased the potential for new variant emerging. As the situation in China unfolds, the U.S. is taking proactive steps to protect the public's health.

The CDC is going to monitor international travelers at airports in Los Angeles and Seattle. The program will now include seven airports and cover about 500 flights a week.

The CDC analyzes the samples that test positive for Covid to see if they are a new variant of the virus.
