Texas Tech rewarded coach Joey McGuire for a successful debut season by agreeing to a new six year contract.
The Red Raiders will play in the Texas Bowl against Ole Miss. The wins over Texas and Oklahoma were the first time in program history that they have defeated both teams in the same season.
Kirby Hocutt believes that the best days are still ahead for the football program. He and his staff are building a culture that will benefit the program for a long time. I believe we are on the right path under the direction of Coach McGuire, who will be the first to tell you that his goal is not to just play in a bowl game, but to win a championship.
A pay increase of about $1 million per season is given by the new deal. $100,000 annual raises, plus performance bonuses, are included in the package that links the coach to Texas Tech.
Texas Tech won three games in a row for the first time in 18 years.
"We firmly believe the success our team has experienced this season is the standard for what is yet to come, and we will do everything in our power to make that happen," he said.
Prior to joining Texas Tech, he was the associate head coach of the Bears. He was the head coach of Cedar Hill High School.
