With the NFL coaching carousel about to kick into high gear, Eric Bieniemy is already generating buzz as a possible target.
Bieniemy is someone who will be of interest to teams looking for a head coach this winter, according to a report.
"We weren't hearing his name much at this time last year, and he didn't go for a lot of interviews after the season. But I'd be very surprised if he didn't get at least an interview in Denver, and there are a lot of people I talk to about the coaching carousel who believe this could finally be the year Bienemy gets his shot."
Bieniemy has been Kansas City's offensive coach for five years. Before that, he was the team's running backs coach.
The 53-year-old has been passed up for head coaching jobs before.
It's surprising that Bieniemy can't get a head coaching job. Two of his predecessors quickly moved their success in Kansas City into promotions elsewhere.
The Philadelphia Eagles hired Doug Pederson as their head coach in 2016 after he spent three seasons as the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinators. Before the Chicago Bears hired Matt Nagy, he only had two years in the job.
Because Bieniemy checks all of the necessary boxes for a head coach, he's one of the best examples of how difficult it is for minority coaches to get top jobs.
Bieniemy has been waiting for his chance for a long time.
