What sounds does a cruise to Arabia make? What about the longest river cruise in the US? It can be hard to choose a destination that is right for you when there are so many options.
I've put together some of the most exciting itineraries of the year. As we head into the new year, this list of new and tried-and-true routes will make you feel like you're in a different place. Prepare to be moved by what you see.
Unless otherwise stated, all prices are per person. Taxes and fees aren't included in the fares.

Japan reopened to travelers in November of 2022. Several lines, including Holland America Line and Celebrity Cruises, are coming back.
The Ponant's Le Soleal is one of the most exciting Japan itineraries I have seen. Not only is the line the first expedition ship to take passengers to Japan's southern islands, but its itineraries are also Japan focused, unlike the ones offered by Holland America and Celebrity.
There will be an eight-day voyage on March 24-31, 2023, that will include visits to traditional villages of the Okinawa archipelago and the Ryukyu Islands. A cabin with an ocean-view starts at $6,000.
The Seto Inland Sea is the oldest sea route in Japan and will be visited by passengers on the second route. The price for an ocean-view room is $7,310. There is more information on Ponant's voyages on the line's website.
In a first for Hurtigruten, the line is offering a selection of sailings around the west coast of Africa, including the islands of Cape Verde.

Cape Verde voyages are rare, making it an ideal place to check out. With Hurtigruten's rapid expansion beyond its traditional Norway offerings and into expedition cruising, you can be one of the first to try out this first-for-the-line itinerary, which will be available four times in late 2023.
There are 13 days of sailings on Hurtigruten's Spitsbergen from Dakar in November and December of 2020. The price for an inside cabin is $5,974. There is more information on the website.
American Queen Voyages has been on the water for a long time. This itinerary is special because it will be the longest ever. The line's newest ship, the American Countess, will be the home of the 23 day cruises.
Some of America's most notable small towns will be visited by the vessel, including La Crosse, Wisconsin, Bettendorf and Burlington, Iowa.
The first voyage is scheduled to start in Red Wing, Minnesota on July 24, 2023, and end in Pittsburgh on August 15,23. When the ship arrives in Pittsburgh, the reverse itinerary will start. The price for an inside cabin starts at $10,599. More information can be found on the line's website.
Windstar Cruises will offer sailings in the Red Sea and Persian Gulf in the Middle East for the first time in fall of 2023.
There are four different itineraries that the line will offer, but my favorite is the 10-day Persian Gulf option, which includes calls to places like Ras Al-Khaimah and Fujairah in the U.A. The ship will visit the island known for its nature and wildlife. The sailings include overnights in two places.
This itinerary is offered 11 times over the course of a year. The cost for ocean-view accommodations starts at $3,499.
Carnival Cruise Line with Carnival Venezia, which will begin sailing from Manhattan in June, will be the first cruise line to sail from New York.
For the first time, the private islands of Carnival's Half Moon Cay and the Ocean Cay Marine Reserve will be accessible via sailings.
There are 11 seven-night sailings on offer between April and December of next year. The price for an inside cabin starts at $399. You can find more information on the website.
For an inside cabin on the Carnival Venezia voyage, prices start at $484 per person. There will be five eight-day Eastern Caribbean cruises with fares starting at $684 per person for an inside cabin. The carnival website has more information.
It's not surprising that some cruise lines are sending ships to the region for the first time in the future. Through the end of the year, Disney Wonder will sail 14 two- to six-night voyages from Australia, New Zealand, and New Caledonia.
There will be five two- to 14-night sailings from Melbourne on the brand-new Resilient Lady. It is rare for the Australian market to see brand new vessels. There are stops in Burnie or both of the state's ports. The two-week sailing includes ports in Australia and New Zealand.
Disney Wonder's per-person fares for inside cabins start at $946 for two nights, $1,606 for three nights, $2,000 for four nights, and $2,118 for five nights. The Disney Cruise Line has more information.
The prices for interior accommodations start at $245 for two nights, $613 for five nights, $753 for six nights and $2,240 for fourteen nights. You can find more information on the Virgin voyages website.
