The Braves signed Sean Murphy to a six-year, $73 million contract.
Murphy will stay in Atlanta through the 2028 season. There is a club option with no buyout.
A three-way trade with the Oakland A's and Milwaukee Brewers resulted in the acquisition of Murphy.
He was one of the hottest names on the trade market before Atlanta pulled off the deal two weeks ago.
Murphy had three years to go until he reached free agency before he signed the new contract. He will make over 15 million dollars a year in the next decade. The Atlanta Braves Foundation will receive 1% of his salary.
In the past, the Braves have agreed to new contracts with players who are still under club control. Over the past year, they have reached long-term deals with several stars, including Austin Riley and Matt Olson.
Seven of Atlanta's core players are under contract for at least three more seasons with club options that could extend the deals even more.
