Lewis wrote "The Big Short" and "Moneyball" about how the housing bubble led to the financial crisis of the late 2000s.

Both were nominated for an Academy Award in 2011. "The Big Short" won an Academy Award.

Lewis had met with Bankman- Fried before. According to The Ankler, Lewis had been interviewing Bankman- Fried for six months.

Apple was close to a deal for the rights to Lewis' book on the fall of FTX and Bankman- Fried, with plans to turn it into a film, according to a report.
