Ed Reed, a Super Bowl champion and nine-time Pro Bowl selection with the Baltimore Ravens, has agreed to become the next head football coach at the school.

Reed is the latest high-profile former athlete to become a coach in the HBCUs.

Deion was at Jackson State until he became the head of Colorado. The head coach at Tennessee State has been named Eddie George.

Bethune-Cookman is a historically Black university. Since joining the SWAC in 2021, it has failed to win a single MEAC championship.

Terry Sims was fired in November after going 2-9 in two years.

Reed had entered an agreement in principle to be the 16th head football coach of the school.

He was an assistant with the Buffalo Bills.

Reed was a member of the 2001 national championship team.

He was drafted in the first round by the Ravens in 2002 and was the leader in the league in intercepts. He holds the record for the most return yards in a single season.
