The volcano in front of the Mirage on the Las Vegas Strip will eventually be replaced by a guitar-shaped room tower. As Hard Rock International completes its ambitious plan to transform the resort, it will erupt nightly for most of the next decade.

The Mirage will be welcoming guests into the new year despite Hard Rock's plans to remodel the property.

The Mirage was taken over by Hard Rock on December 19th after it was approved by Nevada regulators.

Jim Allen said they would like to officially welcome the 3,500 team members at the Mirage to the Hard Rock family. The entertainment community will be proud of the integrated resort that will be created on the Strip.

The Mirage will remain the same until the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas is renovated and rebranded over the next 18 to 24 months, according to the company.

No action will be taken by guests or group organizers when a room is booked. There is a tier of the Unity by Hard Rock players rewards program. Points can be earned at Hard Rock venues.

The Hard Rock's guitar-shaped tower will rise where the Mirage's volcano currently resides.

Since the purchase was announced, there has been little speculation about the volcano's future. Allen said during a meeting of the Nevada Gaming Commission that they are respectful of the legacy of the volcano. We will stop operating the volcano once construction starts.

Cirque Du Soleil's "The Beatles Love" is one of the resort's main attractions. The animals are being relocated after the long-time attraction closed.

Allen said that the company does not plan to close the property during the work because the resort will be stripped down.

The total number of rooms will be increased by 596. The Mirage's villas will be modernized, but not completely.

The casino will be doubled in size to 174,000 square feet. The number of slot machines and table games will increase.

There will be at least three restaurants and a Hard Rock Live entertainment space.

The reimagined resort and a development timetable are expected to be released at the end of the year.

The former Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas was not owned by Hard Rock International. The intent was to bring the Hard Rock brand to the Strip.

The Mirage was conceived by Steve Wynn. The rights to the Mirage name are still held by MGM Resorts International.
