The club said in a statement that they had reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Gakpo. The attacker will be leaving for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary paperwork before the transfer is completed.

Gakpo scored three goals in the World Cup for the Netherlands before they lost to Argentina in the quarterfinals.

With Luis Diaz facing an extended period on the sideline after sustaining a knee injury during a training break, the Reds have moved for Gakpo.

The United manager persuaded the club to consider a move for the player late in the summer window after he was a top target for two other clubs.

In January, United was considering a move for Gakpo after the club decided not to extend the contract of CR7 in November.

When the winter transfer window opens on Sunday, January 1st, the Reds are expected to sign Gakpo, who they beat United to the signing of in the summer.
