It's almost January 1st and you haven't made a resolution. It doesn't have to be hard. If you want to run a marathon, knock yourself out. Simpler is better for resolutions. You might think of yourself as a garden, just revitalizing a little and letting yourself bloom.
I have some suggestions that you don't need to struggle with.
Don't wait to pee at night. I think I got this one from the writer Nicole Cliffe. The goal is a good night of sleep, and that urine is not going to take care of itself. You get to pass out sooner if you get up. You can send more postcards. It is cool to receive mail from a real person. Pick up a postcard and send it to someone. It's quick and easy to get a text message or phone call. There is a dress that fits with style. It might mean something to you. I have been trying to dress like a slot machine, cigarette, and Bourbon away from being a Reno divorcee, and it has brought me a lot of joy. To please yourself, make a board. Camera trappers can be followed on social media. If you follow enough wildlife biologists, Fat Bear Week can be a weekly occurrence. The bellies of big cats are forbidden, and you can see them. If your social media feed is making you sad, you can follow trail cams or national parks instead. You can make things with your hands. This is not the resolution for you if you work all day making physical objects. It can be satisfying to knit a sweater, watch your work come together in real time, and then wear it when you are done, if you are like me. If you get the satisfaction of seeing your achievements, carpentry, pottery, watercolor painting, or cooking would be a good place to start. You can learn a new thing. A friend of mine once told me that he tries to "level up" every year by picking a skill to master, and I admire this very much. It could be anything from learning to code to taking a first aid class. The process will give you an appreciation for the people who are good at something. Allow yourself to be bad. You will fail a lot if you learn a new skill. Maybe you want to learn how to play a musical instrument. If you don't beat yourself up, it will be a lot easier. You don't have to be great. It feels good to be out for a jog, even though I will be one of God's slowest runners. You should try new things. Go for it when you see something you haven't eaten before. The more strange a combination of foods sounds to me, the more likely it is to be enjoyable. People put those things together because of something. Tell them when you say nice things behind someone's back. This is the best new year's resolution I've ever made. I try to tell Person A what I said. Everyone is capable of using a compliment.
