Hudson Card, a former quarterback for the Longhorns, committed to the Boilermakers on Monday. Ryan Walters will inherit a key early building block as he takes over from JeffBrohm.
Card gives the Boilermakers a quarterback with three years of eligibility remaining and a good track record in limited appearances. Over his three seasons at the Longhorns, Card has thrown for 1,523 yards and 11 touchdown.
The Boilermakers were down to just two scholarship quarterbacks with the departure of O'Connell and the appearance of Allen in the NCAA transfer portal.
Drew Brees attended the rival high school of Card's alma mater, Austin LakeTravis High School.
Card passed the ball 65.5% of the time for the Longhorns. In a victory over West Virginia earlier this year, he completed 21 of 27 passes for three touchdown. Card had just one pass that was picked off this year. He has been picked off twice in his career.
Card is a big man with a lot of interest in the NCAA transfer portal. It was an appealing destination due to the appeal of the system under which it was run by Graham Harrell. In stops at North Texas, USC and West Virginia, there are different versions of the Air Raid run by the same man.
Card was the second dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2020 and he committed to Texas.
